Scatter your dog's kibble or a handful of treats into the fleece layers, then shake the mat gently to settle everything down into the folds.

Most likely the first session was too hard. Start by scattering food openly on top so your dog finds it right away, then gradually hide it deeper as they get the idea. A hard first session can put some dogs off trying again.

Can this replace a walk?

Not entirely, but it covers something a walk doesn't. Physical exercise tires the legs. Scent work tires the brain, and a lot of restlessness comes from the brain, not the legs. Many owners use it alongside walks, and as a real substitute on days a proper walk isn't possible.

Is it machine washable?

Yes, on a cool gentle cycle. Air dry flat, and expect it to take a while to dry fully.

Does it have batteries or small parts?

No. It's fabric only, with nothing to break or swallow beyond the fabric itself, which is why supervision still matters with dogs prone to chewing.
